KNMI observations archive

As part of the KNMI weather application that has been running since roughly March 2022, I have been collecting weather observation data from the 10 minutes synoptic observations dataset.

This data, is now available, grouped by month, at /knmi_archive/.

In some of the months, some data is missing. This is mainly due to server outages. A file is present that annotates all missing files.

Weather Application

For all KNMI weather stations in the Netherlands, and select locations in the overseas locations of the Kingdom (Saba, St. Eustatius and Bonaire), it is now possible to view recently observed weather.

Additionally, for the dutch mainland area, the HARMONIE-predicted forecast can be seen for the aforementioned locations. This prediction is approximated by choosing the closest data point of the output of the HARMONIE model.

As part of my activism at the sailing association of the University of Twente, I helped build them a new website. The website replaced a Drupal 6 website that had been running for 12 years at that point. The corona crisis gave us the perfect opportunity to migrate it when activism, and therefore disruption, was minimal.
